SKIN RESEARCH

Skin research.
From fractions to formulations.

Translational research into the skin barrier and tissue repair, building on our dermo-cosmetic experience.

NACRE ACTIVE-NACR-45®

Understand.
Formulate.
Evaluate.

We study nacre fractions in formulations for the skin.

This work uses NACRE ACTIVE-NACR-45® technology, referred to below as NACR-45®. Laboratory studies assess the formulations and their interactions with the skin barrier.

EX VIVO RESEARCH · 2022–2023

Skin, observed
in the laboratory.

Human skin samples maintained in the laboratory: this is the basis of ex vivo studies. Two models assess formulations containing 0.5% and 2% NACR-45® for skin barrier and tissue repair markers.

01Skin barrier

Filaggrin

At 24 hours · delipidated skin

Formula with 0.5%
+22%
Formula with 2%
+51%

Change in the area where filaggrin, a skin barrier protein, is detected.

BIO-EC · 22E5751 · 2022
p < 0.01 · vs untreated control

02Dermal matrix

Collagen I

At day 7 · area around the wound

Formula with 0.5%
+36%
Formula with 2%
+41%

Change in the area where collagen I is detected in the dermis around the wound.

BIO-EC · 22E5997 · 2023
p < 0.01 · vs untreated control

03Repair model

Fibronectin

At day 3 · wounded area

Formula with 0.5%
+56%
Formula with 2%
+67%

Change in the area where fibronectin, an extracellular matrix protein, is detected.

BIO-EC · 22E5997 · 2023
p < 0.05 · vs untreated control

Relative changes in immunostained areas compared with untreated controls in the same model. These experimental findings concern the tested formulations; they do not establish clinical benefit in patients.

Models and sources

Skin barrier

NACR-45® formulations studied on human skin samples to observe skin barrier markers.

Tissue repair

A wounded skin model to study tissue responses to the formulations.

Scientific details & references

Skin barrier

BIO-EC study 22E5751: 51 explants from one donor, including 21 delipidated explants. Assessment after topical application of two formulations. The values shown concern filaggrin staining at 24 hours in delipidated explants.

Tissue repair

BIO-EC study 22E5752: 42 explants from one donor, including 21 with mechanical wounds. Additional analysis of immunostaining in January 2023 (22E5997), using the 2022 samples.

One donor per model; analysed images are technical measurements, not independent participants. Comparisons concern formulations and untreated controls, without isolating the effect of nacre from that of the formula.
